Queen of Baboons is a deeply intimate portrayal of life in a baboon troop through the eyes of its matriarch Mmasadi. Born into the troops highest-ranking family, she will become queen one day. Her lofty status allows her to dominate all the females of the troop. She snatches their food, their infants and their sleeping sites by force if necessary. She may not be Queen yet, but Mmasadi wields power. No threat will affect Mmasadi as intensely as the male baboons that live alongside her the troops male baboons have no regard for Mmasadis high rank. They persecute, torment and threaten her at every milestone of her otherwise privileged life. For the next twenty-five years she will continue to cheat death, and keep one step ahead of her rivals.
